Hospital Information

Fi is on the Spinal Unit - Ward D8 of the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Room 6
Spinal Unit - Ward D8
D Floor, West Block
Queen's Medical Centre
Derby Road
Nottingham
NG7 2UH

Recently a number of people have sent get well cards and letters directly to Fiona at the hospital. This is not too much of a problem but PLEASE ensure that you put the whole of the address above on the envelope. Some people have been missing the Ward D8 off and this both delays the letters and means that someone has to look up Fiona's location each time.

The ward is very busy and the nurses have requested that phone calls through them are kept to a minimum. Fiona is currently in a bed with a phone next to it. Please remember that updates are being posted on here as soon as they are available. Should you wish to have a quick word with Fiona you can now call her on the following number:

07041 139487
Please note that calling this number may incur large charges (apparently it costs 49p per minute peak rate and 39p per minute off peak from standard BT lines, calls from other networks and mobiles may incur higher charges).

Fiona is still having lots of physio and tests so may not be able to answer the phone or be able to chat for long. If the phone is not answered within four or so rings then Fiona can't get to the phone so please try again later. At the moment Fiona really needs her rest so please do not call too late in the evening.

Visiting Hours

11am - 1pm and 4pm - 8pm.

Please note only two visitors are allowed at any one time. If there are a number of you please be considerate and work together to ensure that everyone who wants to spend time with Fi gets a chance.

Fiona has been warned that she will remain very susceptible to infection for around six weeks after the operation. Because of this she asks that if anyone is in any way feeling like they may be coming down with something they do not come to visit her at the hospital or her home once she is discharged. This may sound harsh and unfair but for Fiona's wellbeing and safety it is unfortunately necessary.

Where is the Queen's Medical Centre?

The hospital can be found on the western side of the city of Nottingham. It is situated just on the east side (inside) of the Nottingham Ring Road at its junction with the A52 to Derby. The A52 crosses the M1 at junction 25.

More details on how to get to Queen's Medical Centre can be found at http://www.qmc.nhs.uk/GetToQMC/Location.htm. Their website contains information on how to get there by car and public transport along with maps and details of the parking and park and ride systems in operation at the hospital. Some details from this site are reproduced below for your convenience.

Getting there by public transport

City Transport and other buses run regularly to QMC from the city centre and surrounding areas. Details of timetables for all Nottinghamshire bus services are available by calling the Bus Hotline on (0115) 924 0000.

Nottingham Railway Station is 2.5 miles (4 kilometres) from the hospital and has good parking and public transport links. Beeston Railway station is 2.7 miles (4.4 kilometres) away. If you arrive by train into Nottingham station you can get a bus from the Broadmarsh Bus Station which is only a minute's walk from the station. Often the best bus to get is the "Rainbow Five" bus which runs regularly during the day, futher details can be found at http://www.trentbuses.co.uk/timetables/times/index.html?rainbow5super.html.

There is a taxi rank to the left of the main entrance as you leave the building. Taxis drop at the hospital's main entrance and can often be found waiting there although it is often best to book one in advance if you are short on time.

Further details of how to get to the Queen's Medical Centre by public transport can be found at http://www.qmc.nhs.uk/GetToQMC/PublicTransport.htm.

Getting there by car

Leave the M1 Motorway at Junction 25, and take the 'A52 to Nottingham', past Stapleford, Bramcote and Wollaton Park. As you pass the University on your right hand side you will come to a large traffic island with Queen's Medical Centre on the right. Turn right here and take the first slip road on the left into the hospital grounds and turn right again into West Block car park. Alternatively continue along the hospital perimeter road, following the signs for the Multi-Storey car park. Further details of parking facilities can be found at http://www.qmc.nhs.uk/GetToQMC/parking.htm.

Park and ride scheme

The Queen's Medical Centre has a park and ride scheme in place. The 'LINK 3' service operates from the Queens Drive Park and Ride site, adjacent to Clifton Bridge on the Ring Road, on a 15/20 minute frequency. More information can be found at http://www.qmc.nhs.uk/GetToQMC/Location.htm#Park.
